This is a heart warming story about New York Yankee center fielder, Brett Gardner who visited Alyssa Esposito before a game on May 15, 2009 for a charity event. Alyssa an 18-year-old had been on a heart-transplant waiting list for about four months. Gardner later explained the meeting at a press conference "I remember her telling me to hit a home run for her" I thought, "Yeah, right, I don't hit home runs."
That night during the game Gardner hit a ball down the left field line which resulted in a inside the park homerun, only the second homerun of his season. Gardner continued to play at his best and went 3-3 in the yankees comeback win over twins.
The great story doesn't end there... as things were going great for the Yankees, Alyssa also was informed the same night they had found a match for her heart transplant a would have surgery as soon as possible.
The surgery went well and the Brett and Alyssa met again afterwords.
